Is 20 mph too slow on certain main arterial routes, where the roads are wide, pavements and clear views . Why was 25 mph not introduced . ? The blanket speed is not suitable for all roads , as Park Street and Market Street for instance, very different from The Slade and Nine acres

Very disappointing to see that more than 70% of drivers were breaking the 20mph limit on Nine acres Lane. It's what we see every day as residents, but still brings it home to see the data.

Just a sort of side issue point that occurs to me: Why are measuring instruments battery powered - or seemingly so just powered -  when PV Arrays of modest size are now so inexpensive, and can do much to top-up batteries in devices to operate in dark conditions or time of day? Just curious because it appears someone has to take the time and effort to keep the service working.

Oh, just to make it clear, I'm fully in support of traffic calming measures and although can't drive anymore due to disabilities, the visible speed warning has had a strong effect upon our speed driven about Town. Well done, everyone.

And I can interpret statistics with the best of 'em and expect they replicate here in time ... the crystal clarity of figures of casualties amongst, say, children in "tamed" areas, so forth.

Though perhaps, err, egotists with faith in their rugged individualism above the commonherd skill and ability levels etc ad nauseam per '0000s of psychology research surveys, well might need more vigorous application of somewhat larger clue-sticks...

Well said, Chris.

And CSW: You really should de-anonymise yourself, so we can all thank you

Thanks, that’s great,  much appreciated. I will have a look about battery status, when I walk over to Finstock shortly. Thanks for all your hard work with the SIDs around Charlbury. They are a gentle and effective way of reminding us of our speeds. 😁👍🍻

I installed a SID Grammer school hill last Sunday but the battery may possibly need changing.
unfortunately there isn’t anywhere on Park street which is appropriate to install it. In the past it has been on a lamp post however I was having complaints it was obstructing part of the path.

Hope this helps

Thanks CSW

Would be good to see it back in Park St sometime soon, the SID hasn’t been there for over 6 months, and traffic is still hacking through at speed in  the residential street with a very narrow pavement and Pre-School on it. Many thanks.

Dear Residents

The introduction of speed indication devices around Charlbury has had a notably positive impact on traffic safety. These devices have successfully contributed to reducing average traffic speeds and increasing driver awareness of the speed limits as they travel through our town. The community has expressed encouraging feedback on this initiative, and we greatly appreciate the continued support provided to our dedicated CSW (Community Speed Watch) volunteer, who work tirelessly to oversee this important effort.

While the majority of drivers have responded positively and adjusted their behavior accordingly, we do acknowledge that a small number of motorists continue to disregard the speed limits. However, this should not overshadow the significant progress achieved through the hard work and dedication of the CSW team. Together, we continue to promote safer roads for everyone in Charlbury.

Thanks

CSW Team
