Any lepidopterists in Charlbury?

Unlikely to have survived the winter, but perhaps arrived a little earlier than normal. https://www.ukbutterflies.co.uk/species.php?species=cardui . Suggests they normally start arriving late March, but there will always be a few more enthusiastic individuals!

I was surprised to see a painted lady in my garden this afternoon.  I had a vague impression that these are butterflies of high summer that migrate here from warmer climes and that any that don't migrate back (which may indeed be most of them) will not survive the winter.  Am I mistaken in thinking that they won't survive the winter, or is this a sign that our winters are getting less severe?
