Fri 21 Feb, 18:38 The initial 1 year is subsidised by a govt voucher scheme. No it’s not to much of a price increase than the subsidy not being picked up. if you threaten to cancel, as in actually ask to cancel, then give your reason, then come down to about £36 or so which is just about reasonable enough… |

Tue 18 Feb, 12:27 Don't opt for Plusnet as an alternative. They treated their landline customers appallingly when they started closing their landlines in 2023. People lost all their old landline numbers and many lost all their past emails and their old email addresses as well. Look online at Plusnet Community for some accounts of current closure plans -- including for broadband and businesses! Plusnet mobile already closed down. |

Tue 18 Feb, 11:24 I did the same. Rang them and told them I didn't want to renew my contract for £50/month after the initial contract period. I'm now paying £36 and there is no other provider to my house that can provide similar speeds to Gigaclear AFAIK. I think I have a good deal. |

Tue 18 Feb, 09:54 I'm on Gigaclear's 200Mb/s connection, currently paying £17 per month but I was told before signing up that it would rise to their standard rate after the 18 month introductory offer so in another 11 months I will have some negotiations with them. I was previously paying just over £40 per month for speeds of approximately 50Mb/s, and that was only after getting discounts applied when I phoned, otherwise it would have been around £50 and it was not as reliable as Gigaclear has been. I have never allowed automatic renewal but always asked for something better than originally offered so I also suggest that you speak to them and see if they can do something better, as I shall be doing when my renewal is about to occur. |

Tue 18 Feb, 05:54 Mine started at £26 and at the end of contract went up to £54. To be fair to them, this was made clear on the original advert. I rung them and they agreed to do it for £34 a month. I am now paying £36 as again, at the end of contract, they wanted to put it up again. Ring them up and speak to them and you will get a reduced rate, but in my experience, your bill will still go up. |

Mon 17 Feb, 22:59 The same exact thing happened to us. A year of reasonably priced broadband and now, even with negotiation and decreased speed, £50. We were with John Lewis before, but they stopped their broadband service, so we opted for Gigaclear after looking at other providers. |

Mon 17 Feb, 22:34 I went with Gigaclear, and after a few months they increased my original £25 per month to £28, they said...."It is in our terms and conditions" Now after a year they want to charge me over £50. Is this their normal practice? Has anyone ever negotiated a reduction and how was that done? Other providers like Plusnet do seem much less expensive but the speeds seem slower. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. |
