Goldfinches and green finches visit frequently. The goldfinches are happy to have niger seed unless we have sunflower hearts in the other feeders, then the niger seed doesn't get a look in.

Like everybody else I suggest you forget about niger seed which we found was ignored and also difficult to give even in a special feeder, and get plenty of sunflower hearts which seem to be the favourite of just about all small birds and lots of bigger ones too including spotted woodpeckers which often appear.

That is the only seed we have used for several years now sometimes supplemented with fat-balls and dried mealworms.

Incidentally all this food comes from an online company, Happy-Beaks who have a huge range of things including feeders at excellent prices.

Yes, often 6 greenfinches at a time and a similar number of goldfinches, they seem to have a preference for sunflower hearts. I did try niger seeds once and they were ignored. They know what's best. Needless to say that I also have blue, great, cole, long tailed tits, robins, blackcaps, dunnocks, wrens, corvids (not ravens yet though), nuthatch, woodpeckers (spotted) and more, in all 33 species spotted.

We have some gold finches in our garden (in Little Lees) and didn’t know there was a specific feeder for niger seeds. We would like to have the feeder and seed please.

I have the same problem - bluetits and great tits and sunflower seeds - plenty - but the niger seed feeder sits unloved and not a single finch.
