Railway 200 is a wide-ranging series of events across the country, to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Stockton and Darlington Railway and with it, the birth of the modern railway. This was the world’s first steam-hauled, passenger-carrying railway and brought big changes to the United Kingdom and around the globe.

You can read more about Railway 200 at https://railway200.co.uk/about-railway-200/ where you will also find an ‘invitation’ to stage your own event – even if, like Evesham, you are 200 miles from Stockton and Darlington.

We could celebrate the bicentenary of the Stratford and Moreton Tramway next year.

1825 doesn't have much to do with GWR, let alone the North Cotswold Line, so I wouldn't really expect any particular celebrations here. A case could be made for 1833, 1835 or 1838, and a number of other subsequent dates as well.

Evesham seems to be rather milking it, in terms of the connection between railway history and their planned walks ...

Has this been mentioned here before?  I'm not sure what Charlbury is planning (come on Richard, do tell us!), but further up the line there are some walks planned.  All details from www.eveshamwalkfest.org.uk:

26 June: ‘Rail Trail’ – six-mile walk from Worcestershire Parkway to Pershore, return by train.

27 June: ‘Rail Trail’ – train from Evesham to Pershore, nine-mile walk return.

28 June: ‘Rail Trail’ – eight-mile walk from Evesham to Honeybourne, return by train.
