Michael, You probably know that Paddington Station was closed on Sunday November 17th, with trains diverted to Euston instead.

Next Sunday is not one of the dates for a complete closure of Paddington. However the GWR engineering website states:

"Sunday - All day, many High Speed services to / from London Paddington will be amended, in some cases departing EARLIER from London Paddington. Most fast services between London Paddington and Oxford will not run, but will be partly replaced by additional trains between Didcot Parkway, Radley and Oxford.

Most local stopping services between London Paddington, Reading and Didcot Parkway will only run between Reading and Didcot Parkway. Fast services between London Paddington and Swindon (sometimes beyond) will be amended and will call additionally at Slough, Maidenhead and Twyford. Passengers are strongly advised to check their journeys before travelling."

I'm about to book a fairly important train journey leaving Charlbury on the 0914 next Sunday (Dec 22). Given Alan's comments, has anyone had problems in the past 2-3 months with early Sunday southbound  cancellations from Charlbury?

The basic problem is that Sunday is not part of the working week for GWR train drivers.  Sunday work is overtime and not compulsory.

When I checked trains this morning GWR warned of major disruption and advice not to travel. I expected some sort of major incident at least but following the link they gave I found the major disruption was due to lack of train crew.
