Beware of the split

Thanks for correcting the link, John.  That was indeed the thread I intended to link to, but I thought I was linking specifically to Miranda's lovely post about our passion for grammar.  (It still looks like my link is to the same address as her post, but perhaps it isn't actually possible to link to a specific post within a thread....)

Aha.  We split hairs, not infinitives:  your link should have been:  https://www.charlbury.info/forum/12582.

Bearing in mind the title of this thread and what I now know about Charlbury's linguistic expertise (see https://www.charlbury.info/forum/post/63540), I was a bit surprised to see no mention of infinitives here.

It sounds like some double bagging is a necessary evil! Or take some stronger ones in (like we all remember to forget - especially me!)

I went in yesterday morning to buy some milk and after three attempts at bagging it up (at the self-service checkouts) I gave up. I spoke to who I assume was the manager, who basically didnt appear to give a toss! None of the assistants behind the tills were warning customers either. Basically the manager’s pov was that there was nothing they could do about it. I did try to say that they might experience a few refunds today due to customers loosing their bottles of wine/beer, as they attempt to get them to their cars!

This just typifies the attitude of the management sadly.

Thankfully I gave up and transported my milk, sans bags (maybe it is sneaky way to get us to ditch them?).

No Stephen, not the best post this week, as evidenced by the number of "likes" my post about the Rosie confirms.

We were given the same warning, along with the offer of a box. Pleased to report the wine, cider and eggs all made it home safely.

Kathy at the CoOp warned me that the plastic bags were splitting. Foolish Father I took little heed. Just outside my front door the veritable words of that lovely lady came crashing back as all the Budweisers ( bought for others of course) crashed out of the now splittenbag and smashed onto the hard unforgiving pavement. Some survived but I have had to investigate those who lived on and there is more froth than substance( like a bad sermon).
Beware the split.
