Wed 30 Oct, 19:52 A few years ago - in the middle of some motoring crisis that I can't remember - I tore a tyre leaving Witney and pulled in to that little shop you pass on the left, begging the use of a mobile phone. I was getting nowhere because the RAC was booked out and I don't walk easily, when three goodlooking chaps in yellow jerseys, whom I now know to be Ubico, pulled up, changed my tyre for me in about a minute and a half, wouldn't take a penny and politely declined my offer to have their baby. It took me ages to discover where they worked; only revealed when I asked one of our wastemen whether they ever sported yellow jerseys, and he revealed that his brother was one of my rescuers. WC Fields said to someone who was trying to return a kindness (yes, unlikely for WC Fields but there you go) 'Forgive some sinner, and wink at a homely girl.' |

Wed 30 Oct, 19:21 (last edited on Wed 30 Oct, 20:24) Praise to Ubico! I don't know how they do that job anyway - getting up early in the cold and dark. Hats off to them. Last week they put my food waste bin back inside my front garden. This week they collected my black box from outside my front door and emptied and returned it! Above and beyond. Fantastic service. @Liz Leffman please can you convey my gratitude? As a "registered disabled" this means a lot to me. |
