FYI, my giffgaff mobile signal is back now, and possibly a bit stronger than before.

O2 are carrying out network maintenance in our area. Giffgaff & Sky also use O2's network. Utter madness that they've decided to do this on the same week as the Cornbury Horse Trials where some vendors and local businesses may struggle to take card payments etc..

I have noticed recently that it is impossible to have a phone conversation without losing the signal between Charlbury and Woodstock. The signal strength generally is less than it used to be.

Just a reminder that many later model mobile phones paired with some networks permit Wi-Fi Calling, which lets your mobile use a home or public wi-fi network to make ordinary calls.  I have no giffgaff signal at all, but with my iPhone I can make a dialed call to a landline with no problem. Works for incoming as well.

If you wish to explore that, check your phone settings for something like "Enable Wi-Fi calling" and if your network permits that you should be able to set it on.

Lots of people on gigaclear don't have a landline any more...

This may sound Luddite. But our landline is working fine.

From poor connection yesterday to absolutely zero today. Is anyone on a network that does have service at the moment? I think it's definitely time to get a phone on a different network as emergency backup.

Meanwhile EE still has basically no reception in central Oxford.

Anyone got a good deal on carrier pigeons?

I would also say beware of o2 contacting you offering a new sim-card and 70% off your bill for 12 months because of the bad signal. They contacted me on a London number on Monday and were very convincing. I told them I would ring them back on 202 and seconds later received a text from o2 telling me someone had tried to access my account.

I have been experiencing issues too.  I'm giff gaff which uses the O2 network so the issue is probably at the BSC (base station controller) up at at Lees Rest.

We're experiencing very poor connection with giffgaff at the moment. I used their status checker at https://www.giffgaff.com/coverage-and-service#network, and there is is a message saying

"Sorry, we’re carrying out some maintenance work in this area.

We’re carrying out some essential work on our network. While we do this, you might have some trouble with your calls, text and data.

Everything should be back to usual by 8pm Saturday 14th September 2024."
