Am I right in thinking that most of those making these decisions today were beneficiaries of free education (or were rich enough to pay for private)???

I doubt it - his parents paid a klarge sum of money for him to go to Eton & get into Oxfotrd Uni.

David - as a near-contemporary - though thankfully not in the Bullingdon Club - How much did you or your parents pay for your university education ? Although I did not receive a maintenance grant i recall that my tuition fees were paid by everyone else. General taxation. i feel bad today - Do you feel worse ?
