Fri 9 Aug, 18:56 (last edited on Fri 9 Aug, 19:00) That's good Rod. Especially as I'm a shareholder, and former Director of the Deli. I was also the unpaid Hon Sec of the Street Fair for two years. My wife and I also "lend" our home to visitors to Wilderness free of charge, to help them and save them the camping fees, and to encourage them to attend. If such actions are "negative", perhaps I'd better stop. |

Fri 9 Aug, 17:50 I can't give you figures offhand but the Deli & Cafe certainly gets a boost from the Wilderness weekend.... |

Fri 9 Aug, 15:41 Thank you Alice. I agree with you. I suppose it may now be impossible to quantify, but I still think that Malcolm's question was a good one. |

Fri 9 Aug, 15:28 Of course we understand Hannen. The answer is "No". However, if you really wanted to know who benefited you might ask the Trustees of the land or the owner of Cornbury. I'm not sure they are on this website? The direct grants and bursaries provided by the organisers seem quite generous to me. Long may they continue. Who would benefit then? Hotels & pubs with rooms, B&B's, taxi & helicopter services, food & drink shops/cafés, filming services. The food stands must top up their supplies every day from somewhere and the clean water tankers arrive and the waste water tankers leave regularly throughout the weekend. I have no idea who does this and where they might come from or go to. Most of the crew staff and equipment travel round the country from festival to festival but I understand there are a few local folk employed. What other things might be of benefit to the local economy? How local is local? The South East? |

Fri 9 Aug, 14:44 It's a sad reflection on the local populace that they can't understand what Malcolm's question was about. |

Thu 8 Aug, 21:09 (last edited on Thu 8 Aug, 21:10) Was not referring particularly to direct grants and bursaries so much as seeking any data/information about the circulation of income into the more general "local economy" (although defining just what "that" is might be a bit diffuse). Hence wondering about any research bodies such as WODC may have access to. Way back in the 70s and 80s somewhat coherent research could have a stab at this, does it still get collated? |

Thu 8 Aug, 20:33 One of the direct benefits to the community is the money we receive from Wilderness at the Charlbury Community Centre for organising and selling local residents’ tickets. This money has become an important source of income for us, and helps us continue to offer our community a fantastic facility. If you’d like to see what we have to offer, why not pop in or come along to our Community BBQ on Sunday September 8th - everyone welcome! |

Thu 8 Aug, 16:01 Charlbury Scouts benefited from last years Wilderness Bursary, thanks to a reminder to apply from one of our Hut Trustees! Perhaps more notably, we have had very generous support from the (very local) Charlbury Beer Festival Commitee. |

Thu 8 Aug, 15:23 Also interesting to know who benefited from last year's Wilderness Bursary. And, indeed, who applied for it when it was advertised here on the Forum last November. I don't think it gets as much publicity as it should. Not even sure how much the bursary is worth. |

Thu 8 Aug, 08:42 It would be interesting to know, though also to know how local community groups benefit from any of the festivals and fairs frequenting Charlbury, there's so much amazing volunteering across these groups though curious to know which events really help them keep going. |

Wed 7 Aug, 13:41 I'm curious to know how much, what percentage or proportion, of expenditure around the wider Festival economy of services and activities, actually make it into our "local economy" (and how that may be designated) and not shoot straight out (as per small town chain supermarkets)? People like Liz L might be able to indicate - does WODC (or other government levels) have the capacity to examine or compile that sort of activity and data? |
