The Victorian Mains is, in fact, cockney rhyming slang for wines (Posh accent needed for the slang to work). The London connection is historical and refers back to the days before Charlbury Beer Festival, when people had to travel long distances to sample new beers. The combination of the two is a direct reference to Charlbury Real Ale Players next production "Grape Expectations". It is a tale of the conflict between grape and grain, greed and gratitude, grenoulles et griserie. But when will it happen?

I think Thames Water are using signs from another contract, look carefully and the word Victorian is crossed out in crayon(for Monty Python fans)

I wondered the connection, surely these are not Victorian? Was Nine Acres a road ?

Thames Water contractors have put signs up around Nine Acres announcing works to replace London's Victorian water mains.

Is the fact they're starting the work 80 odd miles from London a way to avoid digging up London's streets? They'll be digging the world's longest tunnel if they are!
