Gigaclear broadband parental controls?

Does anyone have any advice for parental controls for Gigaclear. We have recently changed ISP and now find that the nodes we have been provided with don't seem to be compatible with any serious control options (other than blocking named websites). Have others solved this without upgrading to new nodes with Linksys Shield? We don't want to spend even more on this if there is another way round it.
