If Tony Blair hadn't chickened out of an English version of Scotland's right to roam land access laws (in his a-lickin' desire to become a member of the "upper classes") your heartfelt lament would be largely redundant. With a huge parliamentary majority and a majority Labour MPs support for reform, he looked at the Establishment honours possible if he kept his nose clean and didn't rock its boat - and betrayed us all.

We've been here in Town for 20 years, starting with young children. Then you could see fish by the weir and Mill Race - now with all the sh*t (sic) in the river one can't see an inch below the surface. Don't moan if you voted for Privatisation of natural monopolies.

Thanks Anne - very interesting and well filmed, and gives us hope. I always think it's a shame so little of the Evenlode's 45 miles can be walked along. By my (generous) reckoning, only around 10 miles have footpaths nearby, and the only real bits where you can actually walk alongside it for more than a few yards are south of Stonesfield and near Kingham, plus our Mill Field of course - probably less than 4 miles in total. Wouldn't it be great for public engagement if we could follow it more? How about the 5 miles of it in Cornbury, for example, some of which was at least still open to walkers near the North Lodge bridge only a few years ago... (I didn't see Cornbury in the list of supporting organisations at the end of the film, either.)

Highly recommended having just watched this short film. Learned a lot new (and relearned stuff forgotten from an MSc over three decades ago).

'Beneath the Surface' is a short new film about works and challenges on the Evenlode, which has been undertaken by the Evenlode Catchment Partnership, for anyone interested in our local river and its surroundings"

For anyone who wonders about what is being done to counter the damage being done to our lovely River Evenlode, this new film sets out some of the issues and the actions being taken- all work in progress.
