You can drive with the skis inside the car between the seats and resting on the parcel shelf in the back. However, automatic gear box is recommended otherwise you will cut your fingers on the metal edges everytime you change gears. Or rent skis.

Although difficult to transport due to the length, apparently there is an option for the inclusion of a ski hatch in most Range Rover models ! Apparently!

Miles,

I would argue that some of the posts about Wilderness and other subjects are even more middle class.

Sure, skiing is an expensive sport but so are many others. I used to be a member of Gloucester Ski Club and there was also a dry slope at RAF Brize Norton. One of my contemporaries was a builder / bricklayer / plasterer by the name of Eddie Edwards.

He never made the top echelons in skiing so took up ski jumping instead - the rest is history.

Re ski servicing, the Snowdome at Milton Keynes might be another option? Like Hans, I rent nowadays.

I gave up on having my own skis years ago. Just pitch up early at the resort hire shop and ask for this season's test skis. All manufacturers give next seasons skis to the hire shops for free testing to make sure they hold together. Just make sure you pitch up early though, I was a bit late one year in St Anton and was given 215 cm super G skis. I had to go straight all week.

If it is for repairs and grinding Bartletts in  Uxbridge are good, but not quick, unless in the Summer. Alternatively, Lockwoods in Leamington, but they only service in the Winter months. I am not aware of an independent specialist ski shop in Oxon

This could be a bit of a longshot but I am looking for a service that can provide ski servicing now that winter is approaching. I can't seem to find anything closer than London! Are there are any closer services you are aware of? Or any that can do pick up / drop off from Charlbury?
