Blackpool has its world famous illuminations, Cumbria its wrestling and 'ferret roulette', but this Friday the charming Cotswold town of Charlbury will be playing host to its annual egg throwing competion. The whole town will take to the streets to launch embryonic missile at each other in what is widely eggspected to be a frenzied spectacle of community egguberance. It promises to be fun for all the family, from youngsters eager to try their hand, to hard-boiled veterans intent on settling old scores. Many, from the humble farm hand to those who may have moved here recently, have commented on egg prices, which have increased steadily in recent weeks as competitors stockpile their hordes. Indeed, some 'weekend visitors' have been seen scrambling to The Daylesford Emporium of Finest Epicurean Delights to buy eggs at the kind of prices that would make a souffle wither. According to the organisers there are few rules but please note that only raw eggs are to be used, and both Ostritch and Dog eggs will be confiscated on sight. Local residents will not be asked to shell out for the clean up operation afterwards.
